Today, the International Day of Peace is marked around the world. With adoption of a Resolution of the United Nations (UN) in 2001, this date has been set for a day of non-violence and the cessation of hostilities on a global level.

“May peace prevail on earth, at least one day of peace and non-violence” – this is the universal message of 21 September, the International Day of Peace, and all countries and peoples are invited to celebrate peace and contribute to its prevalence in the world.

In order to mark this day, the “Peace Bell” will be ringing in the UN headquarters in New York. The bell is cast from coins donated by children from all continents. The bell was donated to the United Nations by the UN Associations of Japan, and the inscription on its side reads “Long live absolute world peace”.
