The European Commission has adopted a new and comprehensive Skills Agenda for Europe. The aim is to ensure that people develop a broad set of skills required for today’s economies. This task is paramount for strengthening employability, competitiveness and growth in Europe.
The New Skills Agenda for Europe calls on Member States and stakeholders to improve the quality of skills and their relevance for the labour market. It also aims to reduce the number of Europeans who lack adequate reading and writing skills, and even more have poor numeracy and digital skills. At the same time, it aspires to help high-qualified young people to find jobs matching their talents and aspirations, to facilitate European employers to find employees with the right skills, and to provide those who wish to start their own business with the entrepreneurial mindset and competences.
