On the occasion of Europe Day 2024 and the 20th anniversary of the largest enlargement of the European Union, we organised a Gala Concert at the National Theatre Sarajevo, during which Beethoven’s 9th Symphony was performed.

This truly special performance captivated the audience both in the theatre and on Susan Sontag Square. The performers were the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Theatre Opera Choir, Rocio Faus (soprano from Spain), Magdalena Pluta (mezzo-soprano from Poland), Amir Saračević (tenor from Bosnia and Herzegovina), Daniel Čapkovič (baritone from Slovakia) and the mixed choir Camerata Slovenica. The concert conductor, Jan Caeyers, a Belgian musicologist and conductor, is one of the greatest experts on Beethoven in Europe.

This unique event was realised in cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, within the framework of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the Embassies of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and Spain.
