In 1996, the UN General Assembly invited UN Member States to observe the International Day for Tolerance as outlined in the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance signed by the member states on 16th November 1995. This is the day to recall that everyone who is different from us deserves esteem and respect.
UNESCO’s proclamation of the International Day of Tolerance drew attention to a number of international instruments concerning human rights, including the Convention on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, racial discrimination, as well as the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and many others.
International Day for Tolerance is marked around the world and is set to remind that everyone has the right to live and be what they are.
