Europe House in Sarajevo opened its doors to the public a year ago today, and since then has hosted over 220 events and welcomed 23,000 visitors. Located in the heart of the city, Europe House has quickly become a key space for cultural collaboration, youth engagement, and the promotion of an EU future for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over the past year, it has hosted exhibitions, discussions, and workshops, bringing together artists, thinkers, and activists. Europe House has presented works of some of the most remarkable local and international artists, including the renowned painter Safet Zec as well as the intriguing conceptual exhibition Between Four Walls deconstructing violence against women by Aida Redžepagić and Kristina Ljevak Bajramović. As a hub for networking, film screenings and youth oriented workshops, Europe House was an offical location during the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival. Europe House also saw the launch and finalisation of a number of EU funded projects aiming to support the country’s progress on its path towards EU membership. Moreover, with initiatives like the Europe House Book Club and collaborations with Sarajevo City Library, it continues to foster a deeper understanding of the diverse heritage of our continent. Varied topics have been discussed from mental health to environmental protection and women’s empowerment. By partnering with EU member state embassies, cultural institutes, and local organisations, Europe House has created space for people to develop skills and ideas that will shape the future. Ambassador Luigi Soreca, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, who started his mandate on 1 September this year, expressed his enthusiasm for what is ahead: “I am glad to see that Europe House has firmly established itself as a space for dialogue, cooperation and exchange in Sarajevo. I was glad to already take part in a very lively European Languages Day event, and also see the ‘Moving Stories’ exhibition focused on migration. I look forward to many more interesting activities, especially marking Europe Day together, and am confident that Europe House will continue to inspire and empower.”
