World Youth Skills Day, annually falling on July 15, is now officially recognised by the United Nations and other international and regional organisations. It was established by the UN General Assembly on November 11, 2014.
Today we focus on raising awareness of the importance of acquiring skills as a means to address the challenges of unemployment and under employment, in order to achieve better socio-economic conditions for all youth. A high level of youth unemployment and underemployment is a major problem, especially in the developing country. Addressing this problem and implementation of different programmes is aimed at enhancement of youth’s ability to make informed life and work choices.
The UN General Assembly invites its member states, organisations of the UN system and other international and regional organisations as well as civil society, including youth-led organisations, to commemorate World Youth Skills Day in an appropriate manner, in accordance with national priorities, including through education, campaigns, volunteering and public awareness-raising activities.
